Let’s be honest, the warning signs were there - it was going to be more accessible, the series’ director Hideki Miyazaki wasn’t part of the project and publisher Namco Bandai seemed all too aware that this could be a chance to get a real smash hit, but against the odds Dark Souls 2 is an incredible game, at least as good as the games that came before it. Sure, it is categorically a more accessible, approachable game than the original, but what made Dark Souls so compelling is still very much at the core of this game. It hasn’t been simplified or dumbed down - FROM Software have simply made it easier for new players to get into the Dark Souls experience that the hardcore know and love, while the hardcore have a game that allows them to get into the real meat of the experience with minimal pishing about. It is everything you know and love about Dark Souls - challenging, rewarding gameplay, unmatched art and design and the most original and unique multiplayer available. Fewer graphics than promised, but don't let that put you off!
